Our Old Glory Community Flag Sponsorship

Our Old Glory Community

Lifelong residents Frank and Darlene Bork led the charge to install the American flags which have proudly demonstrated Winchester’s patriotism along the County Road II and Steeple Hill Drive corridors in the Town Center for the past 25 years.  After years of exposure to Wisconsin weather the displays are showing their age. Many of the posts have rotted and the hardware has become brittle and broken. Additionally, the original program did not include the illumination for display after sunset as required by the U.S. Flag Code.

Town Officials have been working with local volunteers to replace the posts, hardware, and flags, and to add solar lighting to comply with the federal regulation. As one can imagine, with 26 flags currently displayed, the cost to continue the beloved tradition is quickly adding up.

As a small, rural community funding for programs beyond basic services is very limited and as a result, the idea for a Community Sponsorship Program was born. Residents, local businesses, organizations, and clubs are encouraged to become a sponsor.

With the support of the community, the beloved Old Glory Flag display will be able to continue for many years to come.
